Activating an eSIM on iPhone is one of the most straightforward things you can do with your phone — once you know where to look. The process takes about 10 minutes, requires nothing more than your iPhone and the QR code from your ConnectPls eSIM purchase, and can be done anywhere you have WiFi.

Step 1: Check Your iPhone Supports eSIM

All iPhones from iPhone XS (2018) onwards support eSIM — this includes all models through the iPhone 15 series and beyond. To confirm: go to Settings — General — About. If you see an EID number listed, your iPhone supports eSIM. Note: iPhones sold in mainland China typically do not support eSIM. iPhones sold everywhere else do.

Step 2: Purchase Your ConnectPls eSIM Plan

Step 3: Install the eSIM on Your iPhone

Make sure you are connected to WiFi. Go to Settings — Mobile/Cellular — Add eSIM. On newer iOS versions, you may see Add Mobile Plan. Tap this option and your iPhone camera will open. Hold your phone so the QR code from your ConnectPls email fills the viewfinder. The eSIM profile downloads and installs automatically — takes about 30 seconds. iOS will ask you to label the eSIM line. Name it something clear like ConnectPls or the destination country.

Step 4: Configure Which Line Does What

After installation, set your home carrier SIM as the line for calls and texts (so your regular number still works for calls when on WiFi), and set the ConnectPls eSIM as the mobile data line. Then turn off roaming on your home SIM line — this prevents any accidental roaming charges.

Step 5: Activate When You Arrive

When you land in your destination country and turn off airplane mode, your iPhone connects to the local network automatically via the ConnectPls eSIM. Open Settings — Mobile/Cellular and confirm the ConnectPls eSIM line shows a signal. Open Safari or Maps to confirm data is working. You are live.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

eSIM not connecting after landing: go to Settings — Mobile/Cellular — ConnectPls line — and confirm Data Roaming is enabled for that specific line. iPhone did not scan the QR code properly: try scanning in better lighting or ask ConnectPls to resend the code. eSIM installed but showing no service: check that the ConnectPls line is set as the mobile data line in Settings — Mobile/Cellular — Mobile Data.
